Remove the background of images

Learn how to upload images without backgrounds to the Virtualbadge.io

This guide explains how to remove the background from an image before uploading it to Virtualbadge.io.

Follow the steps below based on your operating system.

For Windows users:

  1. Open MS Paint.
  2. Go to File → Import to canvas → From a file, and select the image you want to upload.
  3. Crop the image closely around the text or main subject.
  4. Click the Remove Background icon to eliminate the background.
  5. Save the edited image.

For Apple users:

  1. If your image is in JPG, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, BMP, GIF, or PDF format, you can crop it closely around the text or main subject using Preview. For images in HEIC, HEIF, Live Photos, or RAW formats, open the image in the Photos app to crop it.
  2. Next, either continue or open your image in Preview, and click the Markup icon (the pen tip symbol).
  3. Select the Instant Alpha (magic wand) tool.
  4. Click and drag your cursor over the background area; it should turn red with dotted lines outlining the part of the image you want to keep.
  5. When you’re satisfied with the selection, press the Delete key to remove the background.
  6. If you're asked to convert the image from HEIC to PNG, select Convert to proceed.
  7. Save your edited image.

Once your image background is removed and saved as a PNG file, you can easily upload it to Virtualbadge.io for a clean, professional look on your certificates or badges. This ensures your designs remain crisp and distraction-free.
