# Enhancing your credentials with QR codes

## Discover the advantages of incorporating QR codes into your badges and certificates and learn how to seamlessly add them into your certification process.

In today’s digital environment, QR codes have become a practical tool for issuing, verifying, and accessing certificates. Incorporating QR codes into your certification process can improve security and make it easier for recipients to verify their credentials or access additional information.

This document explains the benefits of using QR codes on certificates and how to implement them on the Virtualbadge.io platform.

### **Advantages of Adding QR Codes to Certificates**

#### **1. Instant Verification**

QR codes provide a fast and efficient way to verify certificate authenticity. Scanning the code redirects users to a validation page, confirming the certificate's legitimacy and ensuring it hasn’t been tampered with.

#### **2. Simplified Access to Information**

QR codes link directly to additional resources, such as:

- Details about the certification.
- Information about the issuing authority.
- Related materials like tutorials or courses.

#### **3. Increased Security**

By embedding QR codes, certificates gain an additional layer of security. Scanning the QR code ensures only authorized users can access the details. Forgery attempts become easily detectable.

### **How to add QR Codes to your Certificate?**

1. **Open the Certificate Designer**  
   Navigate to the certificate you want to edit within Virtualbadge.io, then open the **Designer** tool.
2. **Locate the QR Code Element**  
   On the left sidebar of the Designer, find and select the **QR Code** icon.
3. **Add the QR Code to Your Certificate**  
   Choose the QR code option you want to include. It will appear on the certificate template. You can then click and drag it to position it wherever you like on your certificate design.

#### QR Code Integration Options

Virtualbadge.io offers two main QR code configurations for certificates:

#### **1. Validation Page (Default)**

The default QR code setup directs users to a validation page hosted on Virtualbadge.io. This page allows anyone scanning the QR code to instantly verify the certificate’s authenticity.

#### **2. Custom Website**

For more customization, you can direct users to a website of your choice. This is ideal if:

- You want to provide more information about your organization or certification programs.
- You’d prefer to host the validation page on your website.

 Integrating QR codes into certificates is a powerful way to enhance security, streamline verification, and improve user experience. With Virtualbadge.io’s flexible options for validation pages or custom website redirections, you can ensure your certificates stand out as both secure and accessible.

**Note:** Adding a QR code to the certificate or badge design is optional. It depends on your use case—if the credential will be scanned and requires on-demand validity proof, then it is recommended to include the QR code.
